Sihn's Empire
Breakdown
by Angel

After realizing I have been neglecting my religion, I decided I better write something with Ezra and Vin to appease my priestesses. This inspiration of this story came from my own breakdown on Thursday of last week. I was having a terrible week, and for no reason what so ever, started crying at work. I am dreading going in tomorrow (I didn't go Friday), as everyone knows what happened. But, I shall forge on (don't won't to, but I will). Anywho, enough with my problem, on with the show.
I am taking the medicine mentioned in this fic, and the side effects are real.it happened to me.

The day started off fine for Ezra Standish. Earlier morning 'I love you's' with Vin. But, when he got to work, little things started to bother him, for no reason. They were normal things, too. There was no coffee in the break room. His computer froze on him, twice. The copier and the printer were out of paper. Normal everyday things, but they were all about to make him break down into tears. He fought them off each time. But, what finally sent him overboard, was someone hung up on him. So simple, something that happens often, but caused the tears to fall. He rushed out of the office and towards the restroom. But, not before Buck saw his face. The older man was about to go see what was wrong with his friend, when the voice of Chris Larabee stopped him.

"What happened? What's wrong with Ezra?" he asked, confusion and worry thick in his voice.

"I don't know. I was about to go find out. See if you can get ahold of Vin at the courthouse. Somehow, I think Ez is gonna need him," Buck answered, following the same path the Southerner just took. At the restroom door, Buck found it locked. He knew it would be. The big brother in him wanted to knock the door down to get to his little brother. But, he knew Ezra didn't need that. So, he knocked gently.

"Ezra? You alright, pard?" he asked, quietly. After a moments silence, he heard an equally quiet answer.

"No," the younger man sobbed. Buck leaned against the door and waited. The minutes ticked by. Then, he heard movement from the other side of the door, and finally, lock being turned. As the door opened, he saw the miserable form of his little brother step out and into his waiting arms.

"Are you ok?" he asked, hugging his friend tightly.

"No. And you know what sucks? I couldn't tell you why I'm crying," Ezra answered, sniffling. Buck just hugged him and rubbed his back.

"Do you want me to take you home? Chris is calling the courthouse to get Vin," the taller man stated. Ezra nodded against his shoulder. "Do you want me to talk to Chris about you going home?" Another nod and sniffle. "Ok. I think Nathan wants to see you before we go. Is that alright?" Pause, then a slow nod. "Ok, I'll go get him." Buck reluctantly let go and went back to the office, where everyone was waiting.

"How is he?" "What happened?"

"He's just a little upset. Nathan, he said you could go see him. He's still in the restroom," Buck told the others. The doctor of the team immediately headed in that direction, while Buck told the others what happened. "Ezra isn't sure what happened. He told me he doesn't even know why he was crying."

"Maybe Nathan will figure it out. Or even Vin." Josiah hoped.

"Are you taking him home?" Chris asked, already knowing the answer.

"Yeah. He needs to go home and rest. Did you get a hold Vin?" Buck returned. The ATF leader nodded.

"He's going to meet you at their apartment as soon as he wraps up some loose ends," he answered.

Meanwhile, Nathan thought he had it figured out. He knew, just like the rest of the team knew, a breakdown like this was not common for Ezra. After asking the routine questions, the EMT asked if the younger man was taking any new medications. Ezra nodded.

"I've been taking Klonopin and Neurontin for my headaches," he answered. Nathan thought for a moment, then told him.

"Both of those have the possible side effects of mood swings. You may want to get an appointment with you doctor to let him know about this," the dark-skinned man finished. Then, Nathan looked at his younger friend and realized what was really wrong. "There's nothing wrong with you, Ezra. This really is just a side effects to your meds."

The smaller man breathed a shaky sigh of relief, as he felt more tears prick his eyes. Nathan saw this and pulled Ezra in for a reassuring hug.

"You're gonna be alright, Ezra. Buck's gonna take you home, and Vin will be there soon," he whispered to the man in his arms. The younger man nodded. When Nathan finally pulled away, they saw Buck in the doorway waiting.

"You ready to go home, Ez?" he asked. Ezra nodded and followed the taller man out of the building. The ride to the apartment was quiet, though Buck did try (and was successful) to make his little brother smile. When they reached the building, they saw Vin's Jeep parked out front. That nearly made Ezra cry again.

"I'll pulled him away from work," he sobbed.

"He wouldn't want to be there, when you are upset. You know that, and I know that. Besides, if we didn't tell him, he would know. He's got a sixth sense about things, and about you," Buck reassured the young man, who nodded. "Now, we better get you up there, before your over-protective lover comes flying out here, hell bent for leather," he continued, smiling. Ezra looked at his big brother.

"Isn't that a little like the pot calling the kettle black, Buck?" he laughed, tears still in his green eyes. The older man laughed with him, as they climbed out of the truck. "He's going to want to know what happened. How can I answer that, when I don't even know?" Ezra continued.

"I don't know, little man. But, he'll understand either way, just because he loves you," Buck answered, pressing a kiss to the younger man temple and giving him another hug. A door beside them opened to reveald a slightly frazzled Texan. Without a word between them, Buck gently handed Ezra over to Vin. Blue eyes met in silent communication. Both nodded, and Buck turned to go back to work.

"Thank you, Buck," Ezra called out.

"Your welcome," the older man replied, heading out of the building.

"Are you alright, baby," Vin whispered in his love's ear. Ezra only nodded and the other man understood. No words were needed now. Vin gently led the smaller man into the apartment and to the bedroom. He set the other man on the bed and removed his shoes. After taking his own off, he pulled Ezra into his arms again and laid down on the bed. Vin rubbed his love's back and hugged him tightly, as the Southerner cried. Nathan had explained what happened and the possible side effects of Ezra's medications. They could talk later. What Ezra needed now was just to be held by his lover, who held him as he drifted off to sleep. Vin kissed the top of the chestnut head and followed his heart to dreamland.
